Who is Rudolf Laban?
Rudolf Laban (1879–1958) was a pioneering movement theorist, choreographer, and teacher. Born in what is now Hungary, Laban became one of the most influential figures in the field of movement and dance. His groundbreaking work laid the foundation for modern dance in Europe and introduced a systematic way to observe and analyze human movement.
Laban believed that movement was a universal language and that by understanding its structure, we could better understand human behavior, emotion, and expression. His research led to the development of Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) — a method now widely used in fields ranging from performing arts and education to therapy, sports, and leadership development.
